Ce r\u00e9seau, essentiel \u00e0 la survie des communaut\u00e9s, au d\u00e9veloppement agricole, aux \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes et au patrimoine culturel du pays, s\u2019\u00e9tend des vastes plaines du bassin du fleuve S\u00e9n\u00e9gal jusqu\u2019aux zones humides verdoyantes de la Casamance. Cette diversit\u00e9 hydrologique repr\u00e9sente \u00e0 la fois une formidable opportunit\u00e9 et un v\u00e9ritable d\u00e9fi. Dans cet article, BWI explore l\u2019importance et la complexit\u00e9 des principaux bassins versants du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal.<\/p>\n<h2>La diversit\u00e9 hydrologique du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal<\/h2>\n<p>Le r\u00e9seau hydrologique s\u00e9n\u00e9galais \u2014 compos\u00e9 de ses fleuves, lacs et zones humides c\u00f4ti\u00e8res \u2014 joue un r\u00f4le central dans l\u2019\u00e9conomie et la vie sociale du pays. Le fleuve S\u00e9n\u00e9gal, le plus embl\u00e9matique, prend sa source en Guin\u00e9e avant de traverser plusieurs pays et de marquer la fronti\u00e8re naturelle entre le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal et la Mauritanie. D\u2019autres cours d\u2019eau majeurs, comme le fleuve Gambie, contribuent eux aussi \u00e0 l\u2019agriculture, \u00e0 la p\u00eache ou encore \u00e0 la production d\u2019\u00e9nergie.<\/p>\n<h2>Les dynamiques saisonni\u00e8res<\/h2>\n<p>Le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal est marqu\u00e9 par une alternance nette entre saison des pluies et saison s\u00e8che, sous l\u2019influence de la mousson ouest-africaine. De juin \u00e0 octobre, les pluies rechargent les nappes, les rivi\u00e8res et les sols. Mais la variabilit\u00e9 interannuelle des pr\u00e9cipitations peut entra\u00eener des \u00e9pisodes de crue ou de s\u00e9cheresse, affectant directement l\u2019agriculture et la disponibilit\u00e9 de la ressource.<\/p>\n<h2>Les bassins versants : piliers de l\u2019hydrologie s\u00e9n\u00e9galaise<\/h2>\n<p>Plusieurs grands bassins structurent la gestion de l\u2019eau au S\u00e9n\u00e9gal. Chacun joue un r\u00f4le essentiel dans l\u2019approvisionnement, la production agricole, les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes et les usages locaux.<\/p>\n<h3>Le bassin du fleuve S\u00e9n\u00e9gal<\/h3>\n<p><strong>R\u00e9gion<\/strong> : Nord du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal<\/p>\n<p>Le bassin du fleuve S\u00e9n\u00e9gal est le plus vaste et le plus strat\u00e9gique du pays. Long de 1 086 km, le fleuve traverse quatre pays et ses principaux affluents incluent le Bafing, le Bakoye et la Fal\u00e9m\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le saviez-vous ?<\/strong><br \/>\nD\u00e8s l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9, les civilisations m\u00e9diterran\u00e9ennes connaissaient le fleuve ! Ptol\u00e9m\u00e9e le nommait Nias, tandis que Pline l\u2019Ancien l\u2019appelait Bambotus. Certains r\u00e9cits le d\u00e9signaient m\u00eame comme \u00ab le fleuve d\u2019or \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Importance<\/strong> : Le bassin du fleuve S\u00e9n\u00e9gal est vital pour :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>l\u2019irrigation et la riziculture,<\/li>\n<li>l\u2019\u00e9levage,<\/li>\n<li>la p\u00eache,<\/li>\n<li>et la production d\u2019hydro\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 (notamment gr\u00e2ce au barrage de Manantali).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Il abrite \u00e9galement des zones humides et plaines inondables d\u2019une grande valeur \u00e9cologique.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D\u00e9fis<\/strong> : S\u00e9dimentation, diminution de la qualit\u00e9 de l\u2019eau, pressions hydrauliques en amont et coop\u00e9ration inter-\u00c9tats sont autant d\u2019enjeux complexes pour le bassin.<\/p>\n<h3>Le bassin de la Casamance<\/h3>\n<p><strong>R\u00e9gion<\/strong> : Sud du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal<\/p>\n<p>La Casamance b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie d\u2019un climat plus humide, propice \u00e0 une biodiversit\u00e9 riche. Le fleuve Casamance s\u2019\u00e9tend sur 320 km et draine un bassin de plus de 20 000 km\u00b2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Importance<\/strong> : Il soutient :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>la riziculture,<\/li>\n<li>les cultures de rente (anacarde, arachide),<\/li>\n<li>l\u2019arboriculture,<\/li>\n<li>la p\u00eache et l\u2019aquaculture,<\/li>\n<li>et des mangroves et zones humides essentielles aux esp\u00e8ces migratrices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>D\u00e9fis<\/strong> : Les tensions socio-politiques, la d\u00e9forestation, la pollution et la surexploitation des terres fragilisent les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes et la qualit\u00e9 de l\u2019eau.<\/p>\n<h3>Le bassin du Saloum<\/h3>\n<p><strong>R\u00e9gion<\/strong> : Centre du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal<\/p>\n<p>Ce bassin comprend le fleuve Saloum et son delta, class\u00e9 R\u00e9serve de biosph\u00e8re par l\u2019UNESCO. Le paysage alterne marais d\u2019eau douce, vasi\u00e8res et mangroves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Importance<\/strong> :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>forte activit\u00e9 halieutique,<\/li>\n<li>agriculture et \u00e9levage,<\/li>\n<li>tourisme,<\/li>\n<li>richesse culturelle et villages traditionnels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Les mangroves jouent un r\u00f4le cl\u00e9 en tant que nurseries pour poissons et crustac\u00e9s, prot\u00e9geant ainsi les \u00e9conomies locales et la biodiversit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D\u00e9fis<\/strong> : La pollution, la surp\u00eache et la d\u00e9gradation des habitats, aggrav\u00e9es par les effets du changement climatique (\u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer, irr\u00e9gularit\u00e9 des pluies), menacent la stabilit\u00e9 du delta.<\/p>\n<h3>Le bassin du fleuve Gambie<\/h3>\n<p><strong>R\u00e9gion<\/strong> : Est du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal<\/p>\n<p>Le fleuve Gambie traverse le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal et la Gambie avant de rejoindre l\u2019Atlantique.
