Introducing Bassam Chehade – Signal Processing Engineer

We’re pleased to welcome Bassam Chehade, Signal Processing Engineer at BWI. With a PhD in SAR imaging and extensive experience in remote sensing and radar signal processing, Bassam contributes to the REVALTO satellite mission by transforming radar measurements into meaningful geophysical parameters used to monitor inland waters.

We’re delighted to welcome Bassam Chehade to BWI as a Signal Processing Engineer. Originally from Lebanon and now based in Toulouse, Bassam brings strong expertise in radar signal processing, remote sensing and geospatial data analysis. He holds a diploma in Telecommunications Engineering and a PhD in Signal Processing focused on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging.

Bassam shares his journey, motivations and insights into his role at BWI.

Before joining BWI, Bassam built extensive experience in radar imaging and Earth observation across research and industrial environments. He worked on SAR data processing, ocean and environmental monitoring applications, and the development of algorithms to extract geophysical parameters from satellite data. These experiences strengthened his expertise in signal and image processing, remote sensing and scientific programming.

At BWI, Bassam works as a Signal Processing Engineer on the REVALTO project, our radar altimetry satellite mission dedicated to high-revisit hydrology. His role focuses on converting Level-1 radar measurements into Level-2 geophysical products, processing calibrated and geolocated signals to derive meaningful parameters such as water surface elevation. These products are then used by scientists and end users to better monitor inland water systems.

Bassam shares that what excites him most at BWI is the diversity of activities involved in his role – combining research, signal processing, programming and data analysis. He also values working alongside colleagues who are experts in their fields within a friendly and international environment.

We’re proud to have Bassam on board and look forward to his continued contributions to the REVALTO mission.

Welcome, Bassam!
