12th World INBO General Assembly in Bordeaux: a wonderful learning experience!

At the 12th World General Assembly of the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO), BWI had the privilege of joining global leaders in water resource management to discuss one of the most pressing challenges of our time: climate-resilient basin management. Held in Bordeaux, France, this event not only marked INBO’s 30th anniversary but also offered an invaluable opportunity to learn from experts and engage in meaningful dialogue on innovative solutions for sustainable water practices.

BWI had the immense honor of attending the 12th World General Assembly, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO).

Held from October 6th to 10th, 2024, in Bordeaux, France, the General Assembly focused on a critical topic: “How can basin management become more resilient in the face of climate change?” The event brought together key stakeholders in water resource management, from experts and basin organizations to administrators, to address some of the world’s most pressing water challenges.

The INBO community plays a pivotal role in shaping global water resource management and driving progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), with a focus on basin-specific actions.

Representing BWI at this significant gathering were Philippe Gautier (President), Jeremy Fain (CEO), Olivier Chazal (Head of Programs), and Benoît Miltin (Sales Manager). The BWI delegation actively participated in over 30 sessions, covering crucial topics such as integrated water resources management (IWRM) and data-driven approaches to enhancing basin resilience. These discussions were expertly moderated by the International Office for Water (OiEau).

Climate-resilient river basin management must be a global political priority to ensure universal access to freshwater—a principle central to the INBO community’s mission. Through local action plans and a shared commitment to addressing global water challenges, INBO continues to lead the charge toward sustainable water management.

Now more than ever, BWI is firmly convinced of the urgent need for organizations like INBO to advance sustainable water practices for the future of our planet and generations to come.
