We’re pleased to announce the release of BWI service v2.16.00, bringing meaningful improvements to forecast horizon and data transparency.
V2.16.00 extends BWI’s river flow forecast horizon to 15 days, downloadable and readable via API — a significant milestone for the BWI team and for operational hydrology.
Until now, up to 10-day forecasts were the standard across BWI’s services. With V2.16.00, users can now access half a month of hydrological visibility, the longest forecast horizon ever offered by BWI.
Why does it matter? Because operational decisions require time.
Reservoir operations, maintenance planning, flood preparedness, irrigation scheduling, and stakeholder coordination rarely happen overnight. In many situations, having visibility 15 days ahead can make the difference between reacting to an event and preparing for it.
For basin managers, hydropower operators, irrigation agencies, and water-dependent industries, those five additional days provide valuable lead time to anticipate risks, coordinate actions, and make more informed decisions before a hydrological event reaches a critical threshold.
Early warning alerts can now be configured up to 13 days ahead, meaning the extended horizon doesn’t simply provide longer forecast, it directly strengthens anticipation capabilities through BWI’s alert system.
The 15-day forecast is currently available via the download function and API. Portal visualization of the full 15-day horizon will be introduced in a future release.
