From September 1 to 5, 2025, Blue Water Intelligence (BWI) will take part in the Africa’s Food Systems Forum in Dakar, Senegal – the leading continental gathering dedicated to the future of sustainable food systems.
This major event will bring together more than 6,000 participants, 350 international speakers, and representatives from 113 countries, in a dynamic multisectoral dialogue on Africa’s agricultural, climate, and food challenges. Heads of state, ministers, technical partners, private sector actors, researchers, and farmers’ organizations are expected to attend.
BWI is fully engaged in this dynamic. Our commitment in Africa is based on the deployment of projects that combine remote sensing, hydrological modeling, artificial intelligence, and water resources management. Through these initiatives, we strive to promote agriculture that is more resilient, more equitable, and more sustainable.
In Senegal, we are already involved in the HydroSpace4Senegal project, carried out in partnership with MEOSS, Geomatica, and SAED. This project reflects our determination to support institutions and local stakeholders in their ability to anticipate climate crises, optimize water use in irrigated areas, and develop innovative approaches built in cooperation with field partners.
Our participation in the forum reflects a clear ambition: to build new strategic partnerships, showcase our expertise in hydrological technology, actively contribute to Africa’s agricultural transition, and encourage the integration of digital tools into public policies.
Throughout the forum, the Senegal Pavilion will serve as a privileged meeting and exchange space where we will present our solutions and work with our partners to advance innovation in the service of African agriculture.
As part of the forum, BWI is organizing a technical workshop in partnership with SAED and MEOSS. Entitled “Satellite Data and Hydrological Modeling: Anticipating Climate Crises for Resilient Irrigated Agriculture”, it will take place on September 3, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the hall E at the Senegal Pavilion.
This workshop will highlight the results of a collaborative project carried out over the past two years. The goal is to improve water management in hydro-agricultural schemes through satellite image analysis and monitoring, the construction of predictive hydrological models, and the development of digital products for decision-makers.
The session will open with a presentation of the partners and collaboration framework before highlighting concrete results based on case studies and field data. A demonstration of digital tools will follow, featuring maps and operational indicators. Finally, a discussion will focus on integrating these approaches into public water management systems, followed by an interactive exchange with the audience.
Contributions from Amadou Thiam (SAED – Technical Advisor), Abdoulaye Bouya Diop (SAED – Remote Sensing Manager), Thomas Ferrero (CEO of MEOSS), and Mohamad Hamze (Water Resources Expert at BWI) will provide diverse perspectives on the project’s results and outlook.
By leveraging high-precision spatial data and innovative models, this project helps strengthen the capacity of local institutions to anticipate water shortages, optimize its allocation, and better plan agricultural campaigns in the context of climate change.
The workshop will therefore be a key moment to share a concrete experience of technological cooperation and to open perspectives for other regions facing similar challenges.
