BWI Joins the Space Climate League

BWI has joined the Space Climate League, a collective of ClimateTech startups using satellite data to develop innovative environmental solutions, thereby strengthening the group’s expertise in freshwater management in response to climate challenges.

BWI has officially joined the Space Climate League (SCALE), a coalition of innovative space companies that already includes i-Sea, The Climate Company, LTU, and WaltR. This cohort of ClimateTech startup companies aims to harness satellite data to support the ecological transition. BWI’s addition further strengthens the League’s complementary expertise and reinforces its commitment to climate action.

A Collective Initiative for a Global Cause

Launched in 2023 by Aerospace Valley with the support of ADEME and the French Tech Community Fund, the Space Climate League brings together French SMEs and startups that develop Earth observation-based services to tackle major climate challenges. Its mission: accelerate the growth of the “space for climate” sector by fostering commercial, technical, and political synergies among its members.

Through events, shared use cases, and co-development projects, SCALE acts as a catalyst for concrete solutions benefiting local communities, public institutions, and industry stakeholders.

A Synergy of Complementary Expertise

The arrival of BWI expands an ecosystem already composed of four pioneering companies:

  • i-Sea: A leader in marine environment monitoring, providing satellite-based services for coastal zone surveillance, water turbidity, and pollution risks.
  • The Climate Company: Focused on climate analysis in urban environments, notably offering the UCIX index to measure urban heat islands and model cities’ adaptation to climate change.
  • LTU: Specializing in image processing and artificial intelligence, LTU develops powerful visual recognition tools applied to satellite data.
  • WaltR: A key player in smart spatial data, WaltR combines space and urban data to improve air quality management, noise monitoring, and environmental infrastructure planning.

With BWI, the League now integrates an expert in continental surface water. The company provides forecasting services for freshwater availability at both local and global scales. This expertise strengthens the League’s collective ability to address water resource challenges, complementing existing marine, urban, atmospheric, and environmental data processing capabilities.

A Step Toward Stronger Joint Action

SCALE’s ambition is clear: to develop high-impact environmental solutions based on interdisciplinary collaboration. Its members are jointly building concrete use cases—including smart water management, urban adaptation, and environmental monitoring—and aim to expand their influence among local authorities, companies, and public decision-makers.

BWI’s arrival marks a new phase in the structuring of this forward-looking collective. Together, the members of the Space Climate League demonstrate that space innovation can be a vital driver of resilience in the face of climate disruption.
