Employment Type

Hiring process for tech jobs

The typical hiring process comprises 3 interviews and will last 2 weeks.

  • The process always starts with a technical interview for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Product Owner

BWI is looking for a Product Owner in Paris or in Toulouse

Location : Toulouse or Paris 

Contract type : Permanent 

Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a similar role (product owner or product manager).

Main Responsibilities 

As a Product Owner, you will be the key interface between scientific expertise (data science, hydrology, software engineering, infrastructure), business objectives, and the development team. 

Your mission: turn complex scientific models into a simple, robust, and high-performance decision-support product that delivers tangible value to our users.

1. Product Strategy & Vision 

  • Define and drive the product roadmap in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Maintain and present product/module roadmap to stakeholders,ncluding at publicevents and conferences. 
  • Identify market and product opportunities linked to emerging technologies (Sentinel/Copernicus, IoT, AI).  
  • Conduct continuous technology watch on streamflow forecasting methods and remote sensing innovations. 

2. Discovery & Scientific Specifications 

  • Translate user needs and business requirements into actionable User Stories.  
  • Write and manage specifications related to the ingestion of heterogeneous data sources (satellite imagery, in-situ sensors, meteorological models).  
  • Apply a client-driven approach to identify and define features that will become indispensable tools for our future users. 
  • Support the sales team as a technical and functional pre-sales consultant, helping qualify client needs and feasibility. 

3. Delivery & Agile Methodology 

  • Prioritize and manage the backlog based on business value,impact and technical complexity.  
  • Lead agile rituals (Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Retrospectives).  
  • Define and validate clear acceptance criteria to ensure high-quality deliverables. 
  • Train users and conduct product workshops, including international assignments when required. 
  • Contribute as a technical consultant to monthly customer success meetings and follow up meetings. 

Desired Profile 

Domain Expertise (Essential)  

  • Education: Engineering degree or Master in Computer Science, Physics, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or Remote Sensing.  
  • Methodologies: Strong and proven mastery of Agile methodologies. 
  • Hydrology: Solid understanding of hydrological processes (water cycle, flood propagation, water balance) 
  • Earth Observation: Strong proficiency with remote sensing data (optical, radar, satellite altimetry) is a major asset = 
  • Languages: Professional English is mandatory and French is a nice-to-have. 

Product & Soft Skills  

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner within a B2B SaaS environment.  
  • Proficient use of product management tools (Jira, Atlassian suite).  
  • Ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly to development teams.  
  • Analytical and meticulous—you care deeply about the reliability of data delivered to end users. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and into writing.

Space Mission Center Developer

If you are interested in a Space Mission Center Developer position, and you satisfy the below requirements, we would be thrilled to hear from you!
BWI is an impact startup on a mission to use data and machine learning to provide governments and companies with riverflow forecast services in order to help better adapt to the impact of climate change on water management and availability. 

The BWI upstream team is dedicated to conceiving and developing systems for hydrology-related data acquisition, in particular a demonstration mission of radar altimetry satellite constellation, which goal is to demonstrate the capability of providing high-revisit hydrology data. One part of the project is to develop the Mission Center component, in charge of generating scientific products and providing them in a short time to users through web interface and APIs. 

We’re looking for a Space Mission Center Developer to work closely with the Mission Center responsible for defining architecture, analyzing and integrating tools, and developing production, distribution and monitoring sub-components to achieve quickly these goals with high-level of quality, reliability and performance. 

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in development, integration, and data manipulation. He/She must meet the company core skills:  

  • Python software development: writing clean, high-quality, high-performance, maintainable code using automated unit testing 
  • Proficiency in data processing and programming tools (Python and relevant libraries, Git, Jira) 
  • Expertise in Object Oriented Design, Database Design and Micro-service Schema 
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Postgresql, fastAPI 

Some specific mission skills are needed: 

  • Scientific data format manipulation (netCDF, parquet)

Big Data Engineer – Pipelines

BWI is looking for a Big Data Engr. in Paris or in Toulouse

You are expected to build and operate data ingestion and processing pipelines for terabytes of weather and hydrological data, ensuring scalable, reproducible, and production‑grade delivery of model inputs and outputs.

Core responsibilities

  • Implement ingestion (batch/streaming), ELT/ETL steps, and data publishing workflows.
  • Handle scientific formats (netCDF, GRIB2) and columnar storage (Parquet); optimize I/O and algorithms.
  • Design storage with eventual‑consistency patterns (atomic publishes, manifests, versioned paths) and a metadata catalog.
  • Partition and parallelize workloads for distributed compute; compact small files and tune for cost/performance.
  • Build and run containerized services and orchestrated workflows; ensure observability, retries, idempotency, and runbooks.
  • Collaborate with scientists to define data models and validation rules.

Top paradigms & architectural patterns required

  • ELT-first with ETL where needed; streaming/micro-batch for low-latency sources
  • Data lake + metadata catalogue (object storage), data model design for cataloguing

Hydrologist

BWI is looking for a Hydrologist in Paris or in Toulouse

We’re looking for a Hydrologist to join our team, with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience and a solid track record in applied hydrology. The ideal candidate is a strong team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to collaborate effectively across disciplines. You bring an analytical, problem-solving mindset, are comfortable tackling complex hydrological challenges, and enjoy turning data into actionable insights. You are also at ease working in a multicultural environment, contributing to an international team and engaging with diverse partners and stakeholders.

Core responsibilities

  • Coordinate with key stakeholders (including frequent field visits in France and abroad) to develop new models and features, to train users, to organize workshops on our approach
  • Contribute to hydrological model development, both internally (CTO and R&D team, sales team, marketing team, finance team) and externally (partner research labs)
  • Take part of client success meetings to deliver a true and fair vision of model performance
  • Train models, and make documented recommendations to improve models
  • Steer research work performed by partner research labs as scientific committee member
  • Define and execute Calibration and Validation strategies for both downstream and upstream company activities
  • Review models as trained by peers

 

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Solid scientific background in hydrology, hydraulics engineering, meteorology, hydrogeology, water resources or hydro-agronomy
  • A PhD in a relevant field is a strong plus, but a solid engineering background is just as valuable

Cloud Infrastructure Manager / DevOps Engineer

We’re looking for a DevOps engineer and cloud infrastructure manager to join BWI in Toulouse, France.

Key responsibilities:

  • Terraform IaC for dev/stage/prod (modules, remote state, reviewable plans).
  • Operate Kubernetes (managed cloud K8s): cluster lifecycle, upgrades, autoscaling, scheduling, Operators/CRDs. – CI/CD & GitOps: Bitbucket (Cloud) + Bitbucket Pipelines → GitOps deployments using Helm (Argo CD or Flux compatible Helm charts).
  • Docker/OCI: secure, minimal images, multi-stage builds, image scanning. – Observability & SLOs: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Loki, alerting.
  • Security: IAM, mTLS/service auth, secrets management (Vault/Kubernetes secrets sealed), vulnerability scanning, network policies. – Data pipeline ops: batch/stream (Spark, Dask, Prefect or Airflow), large-file transfers to S3‑compatible storage, checkpointing and retry patterns.
  • Cost optimization: rightsizing, spot/preemptible strategy, storage lifecycle. – Runbooks, on‑call, incident response and documentation.
